Murray was reportedly considered for and/or rejected the roles of “Han Solo” in Star Wars (1977), “Batman” in Batman (1989), “Allen Bauer” in Splash (1984), “Eddie Valiant” in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988), “Forrest Gump” in Forrest Gump (1994), “John Kimble” in Kindergarten Cop (1990), “Willie Stokes” in Bad Santa (2003), “Buzz Lightyear” in Toy Story (1995), “Willy Wonka” in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and “Raymond Babbitt” in Rain Man (1988).

In 2016, Murray became the 19th recipient of The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

After feuding on the set of Groundhog Day (1993), Murray and director Harold Ramis allegedly stopped speaking to each other for the next 21 years (although they reportedly reconciled when Ramis was on his deathbed in 2014).
