“You Can’t Bury the Truth.” Whenever two buddies embark on a hunting trip in the movies, you can be assured that some bad shit is about to happen. And that is exactly the case with Calibre, a British thriller directed by Matt Palmer and starring Jack Lowden as “Vaughn” and Martin McCann as “Marcus” – the two friends in question who spend a weekend in hell during a hunting trip in the Scottish Highlands. It’s best not to give too much away in this frequently tense thriller, but let’s just say that it throws a few welcome surprises in the mix of the typical Deliverance-type storyline. Calibre won “Best British Film” honors at the 2018 Edinburgh International Film Festival. Highly recommended!
