The Last of the Secret Agents? (1966)

“Will spying ever be the same again?” A true guilty pleasure, this surreal little James Bond-style spy spoof stars the long-forgotten comedy team of Marty Allen and Steve Rossi (basically third-rate Martin & Lewis wannabes!). Essentially, the movie is made up of little else than tired slapstick gags, psychedelic sets, topless dancers and “groovy” music. But that’s enough to keep me entertained! Allen & Rossi battle a secret organization called THEM in search of the missing arms of the Venus de Milo. The wild-eyed, frizzy-haired Allen stumbles around and says, “Hello, dere!” to everyone within earshot when he isn’t busy ogling the busty beauties. Nancy Sinatra portrays one of the go-go dancers and also sings the title tune (father Frank must have been so proud!): “He’s never caught one spy untold/He’s never even caught a cold/Got his degree from Disneyland …” Also look for Harvey Korman as a German colonel. If you start watching this thing with little or no expectations, you might just find it slightly amusing but otherwise stay the hell away (and don’t say I didn’t warn you)! The Last of the Secret Agents? was directed by Norman Abbott, Bud Abbott’s nephew.
