Tony Soprano did not die in the final episode. Watch the camera's point of view carefully. When it goes black, it's not his point of view we're seeing. It's the viewer getting "whacked." David Chase is saying, "sorry, pal, you're finished" to the viewer, not to Tony Soprano. I'm not saying Tony couldn't have died if the episode had continued, but he didn't die in that moment.
