1954-1977
Freddie Prinze honed his craft in the early 1970s at New York City comedy clubs such as The Improv and Catch a Rising Star before his first big break appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1973. From 1974-77, Prinze starred as Francisco “Chico” Rodriguez in the hit TV series, Chico and the Man. Prinze shot himself in the head and died in 1977, at the age of 22. The death, initially ruled a suicide, was years later re-ruled an “accidental shooting due to the influence of Quaaludes.”
