Sam Stockman

Twenty-year old Sam Stockman first realized the creative art form words allow listening to Bob Dylan. His pubescent ears funneled in that wild, thin mercury sound and his brain worked overload trying to decode the thoughts behind his language. Bob Dylan had opened a door. Stockman started writing songs for a local guitarist and from that a band evolved. Fast-forward four years and the Jalepenios are a six-membered band hailing from Southwest Michigan. Only within the last year has Stockman taken the step towards poetry and most of the poems displayed are derived from songs. Any critiques or bits or advice are encouraged and looked-forward too.

Northern Star

In the voluminous vastness-

indolently dust and gas amass,

contract and glow

then expand and explode.

Your incandescent luminescence

dimmed softer the farther you flew.

Burnt out, you lost your spark

to the dark. Toxic to you, you grew.

A neon emblazoned stratosphere;

destruction has never been so beautiful.

Shes gone forever, the nights just black

exploding supernova; now a black hole

A headlight in the night.

Darling, my northern star,

as you traveled down a dark path

I lost sight of where you are.

From aqueous expanse an undulated roar,

cavalierly crests and fade to repose.

I believe you didn't end when you hit shore

but became the wind that blows.

Suzanne

Electric glow in your body from head to toe

With eyes I couldn't begin to forget

I felt closer to your soul than you'll ever know

As you sat on the deck drawin' on your cigarette

The light has executed its escape plan

The euphoria has evaded your eye

What is it you want to say Suzanne?

There's nothing you haven't already implied

I'm one with the sun, but as its rising can't help feelin' bad

Knew it all along we couldn't keep up what we had.

But, we never even really tried, we just got by

And the clock just kept doin' its job

Got no one to blame, even though I feel robbed

Sentenced forever to live in my mind as a memory

Something hidden in my soul, wrapped up, hard to reach

Locked up inside of me, my key chain missing a key

A vision of you manages to get free, you on the beach

The most telling communication is Silence

And right now its as silent as it has ever been

Act so subtle but your eyes are shouting violence

Why can't things be how they were again?

Trellis and Vine

We grew up together--

like a trellis and a vine

Always figurin' we'd bear fruit,

then age like wine

But insufficient nutrients,

too many sunless days

Left our love dehydrated,

our flower wilted away

That underlying current,

drifted me away from you.

Stole me to the ocean

abandoned you in the lagoon.

Don't lie and say you never saw

my eye's escape to the horizon.

You know you could've come with me

But you chose a place to hide in

Well, the sun comes up and the sun goes down

Thought pretty soon you'd come back around

But the rays can't glow forever, same as you and me

A end must come to every storm,

All the rain drops return to the sea

When the current whips

I'll be riding right along

Not searching for anything

Just a reason to belong

Were it takes me,

I got to trust its for good reason

Honey,

Babe,

I guess this what is called leavin'

Silver, Sliver Dark Moon

Behavin' in a way,

Not synchronizing to what you say

Medicating with minutes,

breathes and words,

Sickened with your doubts,

memories all played out

throw me to the unknown,

No other place I want to lie.

sliver silver, dark moon

illuminate me in the unknown

Everything I love has left me

With nothing but reasons to roam

As meaning evaporated,

abandonment poured into my soul.

Spent my life searching,

For thing's that I'll now never know

Facing my last adversary,

the beating hands on the clock.

Time keeps throwing punches,

One day I will drop.

Time keeps throwing punches,

One day I will drop.

when everything comes together

there is nothing left but to fall apart

and when its all over,

there is nothing left but to start.

sliver silver, dark moon

illuminate me in the unknown

Everything I love has left me

With nothing but reasons to roam

Living Life

My mind grew tired, my head was numb,

wrapped around the thought of you as the only one.

All the dirty lies you spoke added up to a clear truth;

we built this house together but forgot the roof.

Now the rain pours in, as the storm roars on.

When the curtain opened, and the sun shone through

I knew this would be the last day I awoke next to you.

Reason's once came easy, and I still believe a few

but it's just not enough for me to stay with you.

I'll be gone before the sun becomes the moon.

Everything's forgotten, I forgive everything you've done

Got a goal in mind, and my back towards the sun

but it won't work out the way that i plan

It don't matter, I wont be going back there again

I'm trying to get back the hours I lost along the way

Trying to forget the past with every passing day.

Cause you know, trouble begins where trouble ends

We're living our life in a life of sin

But now my foot's pointed towards the door

Gotta find out what living life's truly for.

Shadowed By The Shade

Shadowed by the shade trees coverin' the streets

Comin' up the hill, yellow dress and high-heeled feet

Walkin' up to my door and in she came

Oh her mascara started to run

Down her pure skin, golden from sun

Asked her "Whats on your mind?"

she Whispered "bottle of wine and cigarette's"

Lonely she was- lonely, but that's fine

I get lonely too when the sun slips and sets

Grab a glass, drink down some wine

Try to enjoy your self, force a good time

"Life like this isn't living" she always said

Rocky road behind, rocky road laying ahead

"I got to get out of this dead end place"

Spent all night devising our plan

I had nothing to leave behind, her--- a man

Skipping town in hope for a better life

Far from the reach of her demon's fingertips,

a family who hides their secrets

and her man who treats her like shit

This is the where the road splits

Don't take it, then you'll never know

Just exactly where that road will go

Don't let it happen to you,

This backwards living can't make you new,

Shes so stuck in reverse,

She can't see that this town is a curse.

Headed out driving from the town that night

We headed down the main road, took a right

Kept on driving till we hit the next town

The sky was wide-open, life golden

Felt alive, my blood was flowin'

Never have any ones eyes been greener

Honest, electrifying, pure and good

But she told me how her feelings for him linger

Said about leaving she didn't think she would

Turned back to her house straight down the hill

Her dreams won't forgive her, maybe some day I will
