Whenever I check out Blondie's "Rapture" video, I think to myself "This must be the oldest fuckin' video of all time." It may be the cheap production values and the late '70s holdover appeal. This early rap-influenced video opens with some dude dancing around in a white tux and tails - he looks like Flava Flav without the prop clock. The camera follows him as he enters some weird subterranean club. Then we get a closeup of Deborah Harry and she looks pretty damn hot (but then again it was over 25 years ago!). She tended to evince a raw sexuality that was quite appealing for the time. She then starts dancing with a couple of Studio 54 rejects. It's all quite bizarre. Some goofball dressed as Uncle Sam is performing some weird ritual in the corner. We also see a graffiti artist (Fab Five Freddy!) and a ballerina. Then the dude with the white tux starts doing some primitive breakdancing moves. The whole group heads back out onto the streets and dances off. "Rapture" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Charts. It is considered the first rap video to be broadcast on MTV.
